The International Representative Committee – India East organized the 33rd Annual Conference of the All India Coordinating Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recently at the ITC Royal Bengal from 5th to 8th September 2019. Dr. Bhaskar Pal, Senior Consultant of Apollo Hospital and Organising Chair of the Conference has informed that more than 54 international faculty from 11 countries are attended the congress which had the theme ‘Ethics, Evidence and Excellence’. while the Organizing Secretaries were and attached to.
Dr. M M Samsuzzoha of Columbia Asia Hospital and one of the Organizing Secretaries of the conference has said that It has been their pride that Prof Leslie Regan, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of London along with his Vice President and some honourable members have come in Kolkata first time and have been present to the event. A fellow and member admission ceremony has been held on 7th September at the ITC Sonar premises where 26 members have been admitted to the college.
The Inauguration ceremony has been held on 5th of September where Prof Leslie Regan has grace the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Prof S Arulkumaran, past president of FIGO as the Guest of Honour.
DR. basab Mukherjee, another Organizing Secretary has said that several topics of Gynaecology & obstatics of contemporary interest were discussed in the conference on wchich mass awareness is very much necessary. in brief these are as follows:
• Urinary Incontinence in some form is an issue affecting nearly 20% of women after menopause. Discussion was held on assessment and management of incontinence.
• Advances in Fetal Medicine include Down’s Syndrome Screening between 11-13 wks and Fetal Therapy were covered in the discussion.
• Hysterectomy is a procedure performed under dubious indications. Several advances have been made e.g. LNG IUS, uterine artery embolization etc.) to minimise the need of the hysterectomy operation.
